Celebrating the Class of 2022

As the 96th academic year drew to a close, CCDS celebrated its graduating class at the Class of 2022 Commencement Ceremony, held on Saturday, May 28. Seventy students walked across the stage in the Carey Family Amphitheater to receive their diplomas from Head of School Rob Zimmerman ’98.

Tasked with giving a few remarks, Senior Class President Daisy McClean chose to define the Class of 2022 with one word - iconic. She explained that despite the pandemic challenges the class faced, they never let it steal their senior year moments. Instead, they created a genuinely iconic year, from bringing life to the student section to planning dances again.

Student Council President Zach Corbin also addressed the class one last time, leaving his classmates with some sound advice.

"Class of 2022, I hope you continue to laugh and smile and enjoy the little things in life just as we've done here. Continue to find the inspiration in each other, and let's never stop inspiring one another and those around us."

Congratulations, Class of 2022! Welcome to the legions of proud Country Day Alumni!

Country Day's New Mission Statement in Action

Earlier this month, Head of School, Rob Zimmerman '98, shared a video introducing Country Day's new mission statement and showing it in action throughout the year.

The Board of Trustees adopted the new mission statement at the end of the last academic year.  The statement articulates why we exist and what we are driven to do as educators. It’s a call to action. The best way to understand how we accomplish this work is to hear directly from our students and teachers.

Celebrating the Long-Term Dedication of Faculty and Staff

On June 1, we celebrated the dedication of our longest serving faculty and staff members. 24 individuals have served our community collectively for 460 YEARS! We are grateful for their commitment to our students, our community, and each other.

Among those honored was Lois Rust, middle school drama teacher and school event coordinator, who has served the school for a staggering 40 YEARS!

We are grateful to ALL our faculty and staff for their incredible service!

Trustee Reunion Celebrates the Exceptional Service of Jody Brant '87

On Friday, June 3, trustees and former trustees gathered to celebrate the conclusion of a successful year. As well as taking the opportunity to reconnect with each other, the assembled group offered its thanks to outgoing Board President, Jody Brant '87.

Jody has given the board eight years of dedicated service - four years as a trustee and four years as board president. During his tenure, he has overseen a significant list of school milestones, including conclusion of a successful endowment campaign, rollout of a new mission statement, the completion of several building projects, a head of school search and new head transition, introduction of a new mascot, and successfully steered the school through a pandemic. We are deeply grateful to Jody for his service.

Jody is not going far. Next year he will continue his service to the school as Chair of the CCDS Foundation Board.

Pictures of the Month

Congratulations to the Class of 2022, proudly displaying their college spirt wear!

Our 2nd graders brought the zoo to school! Inspired by their field trip to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, each 2nd grade student selected an animal to study. After weeks of research, writing, and construction, they presented their animal dioramas and non-fiction books to 1st grade students, faculty, and staff.

Flying into Middle School! Students participated in the annual 4th grade paper airplane contest, a Country Day tradition, where students work as teams to engineer the best paper airplane.

Ariella Cohen '01, parent and member of the Board of Trustees, attended the Middle School Awards Ceremony to celebrate the achievements of two of her children, Ezra (7th grade), a recipient of The Bobby Pogue Prize, and Zoe (5th grade)

We are so thankful for our 62-acre campus at Country Day! Rain or shine, you can always find students learning outside. After watching tadpoles grow and develop in their classroom, students released them into our campus pond, where they look forward to seeing them thrive as frogs.

Through our job shadowing program, Kyle Eller ’22, Graham Sorg ’23, and Sohan Gangam ’23 are working with Country Day parent and ophthalmologist Dr. Chris Riemann, learning from experiences including being inside the O.R. during eye surgery.

As co-president of Honor Council, co-president of the Science Olympiad team, Mock Trial captain, Academic Team captain, golf team player, tennis team member, and one of the funniest writers his advisor has even known, Cole Harten '22 is prepared for whatever Harvard throws his way!

On Friday, May 27, the 4th grade class of 2030 celebrated their progression out of Lower School and on to Middle School.

Country Day's centennial class, the Class of 2026, wrapped up their time in Middle School at the 8th grade graduation ceremony. The head of middle school, Theresa "Hirsch" Hirschauer, left the class with a few crucial pieces of advice:

"Don't be followers. Country Day allows you to find your path, which doesn't have to follow any stereotypes. Create new clubs, shine on the stage for talent shows and musicals, and participate in as many sports as possible. Do not take for granted the opportunities you have. Be able to look at yourself in the mirror in four years and know that you put forth your best effort. Do not doubt your ability. This class is incredibly talented. Stay tight as a group and celebrate the accomplishments with each other. Build on these over the next four years and the sky is the limit."

Well said, Hirsch!

For his senior project, Daniel Hong built a scale model of an airplane. He taught himself the AutoCAD program to design the plane and created both cut and engrave layers of wing drawings for the laser cutter.

Pre-K and Montessori students splashed their way into summer with water activities all over campus - they even shared some with our plants and windows!

Students in the Early Childhood program cooled off in the hot weather with homemade ice cream! The youngsters learned how to sell and share ice cream with kindness and got a mini chemistry lesson on the science behind making it too!

Thank you!
