Work Session Poland Board of Education held March 14, 2022 A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., in the Dobbins Board Room, 3030 Dobbins Road. President, Mr. Polis called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance Members present for roll call and answering their names were Ms. Colucci, Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Polis, Mrs. Elia, and Mr. Warren. - All Here. Director of Operations Ð Matt McKenzie * Matt McKenzie gave an update on Softball Bid opening held on February 7, 2022 Ð There were five (5) bidders. Integra was the lowest bid at $318,290. Several references and other architectural firms were contacted in which Integra previously completed like projects. According to board policy, the recommendation of lowest and responsible Bid will be presented for approval at the next regularly scheduled meeting. * Matt McKenzie gave an update on Tennis Courts Ð Discussions on location and designs were presented. The current location of the courts is not ideal. Two (2) studies were presented for discussion: - Study A - Move new tennis courts to soccer practice field. Additional fencing would be needed in this study. - Study B Ð Move new tennis courts to where existing practice football field is. Costs - Excavation, sub base, paving would be required at any location. Approximate cost for six (6) courts $ 500,000. (6 courts). Seeding, walkway, lighting, drainage, restrooms, etc. would be additional. If project started moving forward, next spring courts may be available. After much discussion, a master plan is crucial in order to determine the best location of the "permanent" tennis courts. Treasurer Ð Janet Muntean * Treasurer Muntean updated the Board as a follow up from FebruaryÕs discussion on the Westminster Fund. After presenting more information on the legal paperwork required and cost involved to move the funds to the Poland Schools Foundation, the funds will remain in current fund and criteria and awarding processes will be developed to issue Scholarships to graduating seniors attending Westminster. * Treasurer Muntean updated the Board regarding FY23 ESSER State Activities (supplement) Award in the amount of $107,683.18. More information to follow as to how the funds will be spent. * Treasurer Muntean explained the FY21 Audit has been Finalized and Released. She thanked all those involved during the audit process for their dedication, the great results and process would not be possible without an outstanding team. Superintendent Ð Craig Hockenberry * Congratulated Candy Fonagy and the Cast of Emma the Musical. * Congratulated Dylan Smith for placing at State Wrestling * Kindergarten registration numbers are at 123 students from March 5 and March 12 registration dates. * Transportation Updates - March 2 - Parent Discussion Routes 33 & 35 was held, approximately 60 people attended - March 3 - Roundtable was held with seven (7) other districts with Superintendents and Transportation Directors - March 14 Ð One (1) driver returned and another drive is doubling up in order to restore service to Routes 33 and 35. This remains as a delicate situation with driver shortage. - May 12 Ð A Transportation Job Fair is being planned from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and then 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - March 14 Ð Round I of staffing will be underway for internal transfers only. - March 21 Ð OAPSE Pre-Negotiation will begin. - March 25 Ð No School Ð Safety Training Day Ð District Wide - March 31 Ð Joint Press Conference at Union Ð 10:00 a.m. with the Village of Poland - April 5 Ð SAVE THE DATE Ð ÒPoland TogetherÓ Ð 10:00 a.m. At 6:40 p.m., Mr. Warren moved and Ms. Colucci seconded with all members present signaling aye to enter into executive session to prepare for, conduct, or review a collective bargaining strategy and to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official.
