Regular Meeting Poland Board of Education held December 17, 2018 The regular meeting of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Poland Township Hall. President, Mrs. Zedaker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance Members present for roll call and answering their names were Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Lavorini, Mr. Riddle, Mr. Shovlin and Mrs. Zedaker. Approval of Minutes – Resolution #2018-274 Mr. Riddle moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with all members voting aye to approve the minutes of: Work Session Meeting of November 19, 2018 Regular Board Meeting of November 26, 2018 Acceptance of Treasurer’s Report – Resolution #2018-275 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members voting aye to accept for audit the finance report for November 2018 as submitted by the Treasurer. Public Comments Approval to Commend Staff and Students – Resolution #2018-276 Mr. Lavorini moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to commend the following staff and students for exceptional achievement and honors. Poland Seminary Would like to thank the Ebert family and the Poland School Foundation for the continued support and donation of $2500. The PSHS Freshman, JV and Varsity cheerleaders and coaches took part in YWCA’s “Wish Upon a Star” holiday gift drive, which will provide gifts to low-income and homeless children served by YWCA. Gifts were generously and charitably purchased by the cheer families. On March 1st, Head Coach, Jodi West, of the Poland Speech Team will be inducted into the Ohio Speech & Debate Association’s Coaches Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at the Palace Theater in Canton. Approval of Fund 022 Transfer – Resolution #2018-277 Mr. Riddle moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members voting aye to approve the transfer of the current balance of $27.40 from the 022 Athletic/tournament account for the fall 2018 athletic season into the Athletic Department Boys Soccer Account. Authorization to Apply for Sam’s Club Corporate Credit Account – Resolution #2018-278 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with all members voting aye to authorize the treasurer to open a Sam’s Club Corporate Credit Account in order to streamline purchasing options at both Sam’s Club and Walmart for use within the Poland Local School District. David Smercansky – Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach Approval of Overnight Field Trip – Resolution #2018-290 Mr. Riddle moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to approve an overnight field trip for the Poland Speech and Debate team to attend the Sylvania Speech & Debate Invitational in Maumee, Ohio. Dates are Thursday, January 10, 2019 and returning Saturday, January 12, 2019. Cost per participant is $250.00 per student. Itinerary and list of chaperones are attached. The cost of the trip will be paid out of the team account through funding and fundraising. Any additional funds needed will be provided through student self-pay. Approval of Agreement with Poland Township for Salt Purchase & Storage – Resolution #2018-291 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members voting aye to approve the agreement with Poland Township Board of Trustees to purchase and store road salt at its facility through the state Cooperative Purchasing Program for “salting” its Poland Local School District parking lots, sidewalks and/or surrounding District owned property during the icy winter months.
