Regular Meeting Poland Board of Education held October 22, 2018 The regular meeting of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Poland Seminary High School Auditorium. President, Mrs. Zedaker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance Members present for roll call and answering their names were Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Lavorini, Mr. Riddle, Mr. Shovlin and Mrs. Zedaker. Performance Poland Seminary High School A Cappella group – Shannon Nicholson, Director Approval of Minutes – Resolution #2018-236 Mr. Lavorini moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to approve the minutes of: Work Session Meeting of September 17, 2018 Approval of Minutes – Resolution #2018-237 Mr. Shovlin moved and Mr. Riddle seconded with all members voting aye to approve the minutes of: Regular Meeting of September 14, 2018 Approval of Minutes – Resolution #2018-238 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with all members voting aye to approve the minutes of: Work Session Meeting of October 15, 2018 Acceptance of Treasurer’s Report – Resolution #2018-239 Mr. Riddle moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to accept for audit the finance report for September 2018 as submitted by the Treasurer. Approval of FY19 Amended Appropriations – Resolution #2018-240 Mr. Lavorini moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members voting aye to approve the FY19 amended appropriations and submit for certification to the Mahoning County Budget Commission for all funds totaling $22,575,272.82. Approval of FY19 - October Five Year Forecast – Resolution #2018-241 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members voting aye to approve the district’s five (5) year forecast as presented by Treasurer, Janet Muntean. This resolution and the Board’s approval are required by the State of Ohio. Public Comments Approval to Commend Staff and Students – Resolution #2018-242 Mr. Shovlin moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to commend the following staff and students for exceptional achievement and honors.  PSHS Art Students – Madison Crow, Lindsay DeLullo, and Chelsea Kilgore accepted into an honors program at The Butler Institute of American Art.  PSHS – Anna Spagnola, Hope Sines, and Nathaniel Kendall will represent PSHS in the OMEA District V Honors Choir Festival at Stambaugh Auditorium on October 27th at 1:30 p.m.  PMS – Jenna Spagnola, Owen Rodgers, Felicita Quinones and Teresa Quinones will represent Poland Middle School in the OMEA District V Honors Choir Festival held at Stambaugh Auditorium on October 27th at 1:30 p.m. Acceptance of Donations – Resolution #2018-243 Mr. Riddle moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to accept the following donations:  Pipelines, Inc. – Donation of materials to Poland Middle School STEM class for 20 student rockets. Donation amount - $85.00  Union Elementary PTO – Donation to Union Elementary Principal’s Account - $2000.00  RobotEvents – Grant to PSHS Robotic Team for Robot approximate cost of $960.00 and $200 voucher towards accessories for Robot. Acceptance of Resignation of Marena Carmello – Resolution #2018-248 Mr. Shovlin moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with all members voting aye to accept the resignation of Marena Carmello, part-time Guidance Counselor at Union Elementary effective October 17, 2018. Approval of FMLA - Resolution #2018-249 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with all members voting aye to approve Holly Wilson, FMLA leave tentatively as of Monday, January 28, 2019 ending on Friday, March 22, 2019 according to PEA Contract Article 4.91. Approval of Long-Term Substitute – Resolution #2018-250 Mr. Lavorini moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to approve the following as a Long-term substitute teacher for the 2018-2019 school year, according to the PEA agreement of $75.00 per day for the 1-60th day. On the 61st workday in same assignment BAO per day. All required reports are on file. Furthermore, approve Kimberly Creed for six (6) days shadowing the current teacher for a smooth transition at $75.00 per day. Effective October 19, 2018. See attached. (#2018– 250). Kimberly Creed - Poland Middle School Intervention Specialist Approval of Non-Teaching Personnel – Resolution #2018-251 Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with all members voting aye to approve the following non-teaching personnel be placed on the approved substitute list for the 2018-19 school year, substitute basis only, according to wage rate for the assignment designated; all required reports are on file:  Mary Chaszeyka – Substitute Porter/Custodian  Eric Hess – Substitute Bus Driver/Bus Aide effective October 3, 2018  Lacey Kramer – Substitute Bus Driver Approve Amendment to Board Policy 6605 “Crowdfunding” – Resolution #2018-252 Mr. Shovlin moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with all members voting aye to approve the amendment to Board Policy 6605, “Crowdfunding” as presented for the first reading. The second reading will take place during the next regular scheduled meeting of the Board of Education. Informational Items Reports/Presentations Foundation – Mrs. Zedaker explained the recently held Foundation Banquet was well attended. Also, Corey Jones held the winning ticket drawn in the Tickets for Tech Raffle for a 2-year lease on a Chevy Equinox. Legislation – Mr. Riddle explained there is little activity this month and reminded everyone to vote at the upcoming November 6th election. At 7:50 p.m., Mr. Lavorini moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members voting aye to enter into Executive Session for preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with employees.
