Work Session Poland Board of Education held November 19, 2018 

 

 

A work session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 
6:00 p.m. at the Poland Seminary High School Cafeteria. 

 

President, Mrs. Zedaker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 

 

Pledge of Allegiance 

 

Members present for roll call and answering their names were Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Lavorini, Mr. 
Riddle, and Mrs. Zedaker. Absent: Mr. Shovlin. 

 

Poland Seminary High School Updates: Mr. Kevin Snyder 

 Condolences were extended to the Kent Family during this difficult time. PSHS students 
created and have displayed signage to express their condolences to the Kent Family. 
 Veterans Day Assembly was held on November 9th with Jack Betts as the keynote speaker. 
 PSHS was recognized on November 15th at the Excellence in Education Awards Luncheon 
and won two (2) awards for post-secondary and dual enrollment. 
 The Youth Leadership Summit will be held on November 28th at Youngstown State 
University and forty (40) student leaders from Poland will be representing PSHS. 
 Galatiana (Galena) Lopuchovsky, a senior at PSHS has been selected as the 2019 recipient 
of the YWCA Young Women with a Bright Futures Award. Galena will attend a banquet 
on April 6, 2019 at the Holiday Inn. 
 The fieldhouse lobby restroom project is nearly completed. 


 

 

Presentations OSBA Capital Conference Attendees: 

 David Janofa, Janet Muntean, James Lavorini and Gregg Riddle all attended the 2018 
OSBA Capital Conference from November 11-13, 2018. Each attendee discussed with the 
Board the topics and sessions which were attended as well as ideas obtained while 
communications with the vendors at the trade show. 


 

Discussion: 

 MS Consultants Update - Facilities Discussion – David Janofa – Mr. Janofa provided the 
board with copies of Summary of Spaces Worksheets and Drawings from MS Consultant’s 
Inc. The information provided was discussed at length with suggestions of how to proceed 
moving forward with facilities issues. 


 

Information: 

 Board Policy 5114- Foreign Exchange Students – Mr. Janofa discussed with the Board 
the need to revise Board Policy 5114 regarding Foreign Exchange Students. 
 Thanksgiving and Christmas Recess Schedule for Custodial Employees – Mr. Janofa 
provided the Board with staff work schedule during the upcoming holidays. 


 


 

 

At 8:07 p.m., Mr. Lavorini moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with Mr. Riddle and 
Mrs. Zedaker signaling aye to enter into Executive Session for preparing for, conducting, or 
reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with employees. Absent: Mr. Shovlin. 

 

Reconvene and Adjournment 

 At 9:05 p.m., Mr. Riddle moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with Mr. Lavorini and Mrs. 
Zedaker voting aye to reconvene and adjourn the meeting. Absent: Mr. Shovlin.
