Work Session of Poland Board of Education held April 16, 2018 A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Poland Middle School Connector. President, Mrs. Zedaker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance. Members present for roll call and answering their names were Mr. Lavorini, Mr. Riddle and Mrs. Zedaker. Absent Mr. Shovlin and Dr. Dinopoulos. Information from Treasurer – Janet Muntean 1. Expiring Levies – Treasurer, Janet Muntean informed the Board that August 8, 2018 is the certification deadline with the Board of Elections for the November 6, 2018 ballot. The 2.7 mill Emergency Renewal will expire the end of TY 2018. The November 2018 election is the first time it can be placed on the ballot for renewal. 2. Farmer’s Bank Note – As an update from prior discussions, Treasurer, Janet Muntean, informed the Board of the Energy Conservation Note IV with Farmers National Bank which has an estimated principal and interest balance of $240,000. The note has a current fixed rate of 4.85%. After further discussion, the board would like options on a formal comprehensive debt reduction plan. 3. Unclaimed Funds – Recently the Poland Schools was mentioned on the unclaimed funds list. Treasurer, Janet Muntean informed the Board that the necessary paperwork was obtained and submitted to the Ohio Department of Commerce for collection. There were two (2) claims requested with a total of $364.79 combined. 4. Bureau of Worker’s Compensation – Treasurer, Janet Muntean shared information regarding the upcoming BWC 2019 Group Rating Renewal. Proposals from both Sheakley and Comp Management were reviewed and discussed. The Treasurer also informed the Board of other programs the Bureau offers to obtain additional revenue and/or rebates. These additional programs/offers are currently being looked into. A recommendation of remaining with Comp Management will be forthcoming at the regular scheduled April Board of Education Meeting. Discussion: 1. Adoption of K-5 Bridges Math Program and CPM Math Grades 6-8 – Superintendent Janofa informed the Board of the plans to move forward with the Adoption of K-5 Bridges Math and CPM Math Grades 6-8 programs. A recommendation will be forthcoming at the regular scheduled April Board of Education Meeting. 2. Facilities Committee Update – Mr. Janofa explained to the Board that the Facilities Committee will be presenting their proposals at the April 23, 2018 Board of Education Meeting. At 7:31 p.m., Mr. Riddle moved and Mr. Lavorini seconded with Mrs. Zedaker signaling aye to enter into Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official. Absent Mr. Shovlin and Dr. Dinopoulos. Adjournment At 9:15 p.m., Mr. Lavorini moved and Mr. Riddle seconded with Mrs. Zedaker voting aye to reconvene and adjourn the work session.
