Work Session Poland Board of Education held October 11, 2021 A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., in the Dobbins Board Room, 3030 Dobbins Road. President Riddle called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance Members present for roll call and answering their names were Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Polis, Mr. Warren and Mr. Riddle. – Absent, Ms. Colucci PRESENTATIONS: • Communications Director - Nico Ruggieri updated the Board on all of the various methods the district is utilizing to increase and improve district communications. • Special Services Director - Lauren DeJulio updated the Board on the various components of the Special Services programs for Students with Special Needs. TREASURER – Janet Muntean • Fund Transfers – Treasurer, Janet Muntean discussed with the Board upcoming fund transfers. Specifically transfers to PSHS, Speech and Debate and Robotics for the 2021-2022 school year. After further discussion it was determined that all future transfers to student activity or club accounts would require an application from said club to the Board explaining the need for the funds and documentation of the clubs fundraising efforts. SUPERINTENDENT – Craig Hockenberry ● COVID-19 Tracker – The COVID-19 Tracker can be found on the district website and is updated daily. ● 150 COVID-19 Free Tests – The district was COVID-19 Rapid Testing Kits for anyone needing one. ● PEA & OAPSE Monthly Labor Discussions from October – Labor discussions with both Union organizations continue each month and are going very well. ● Poland Teacher/Staff Professional PD (Waiver Day’s) NO SCHOOL - Monday, October 11, 2021, Monday, November 29, 2021, Tuesday, January 18, 2022, and Tuesday, February 22, 2022 ● Poland Schools: “Special Education Parent Night” Thursday, October 21 @ 4:00 pm ● Real Estate Forum/Brunch: Thursday, October 28 @ 9:00 am (Dobbins) ● Poland Job Fair: Wednesday, November 3 @ 5:00 pm (Dobbins) ● Transportation Update – Superintendent Hockenberry explained the district is still experiencing a major labor shortage in Transportation. The driver shortage has escalated to a level where the district MUST start to notify parents of steps the district will have to take if and when a certain number of drivers are unable to drive. Currently the district has 16 routes and only 15 drivers, so the district is combining routes and notifying parents of these changes. IF the number of drivers out daily reaches…… 1-4 drivers out – Routes will be combined 5-7 drivers out - 1 mile radius – No Transportation 8 or more drivers out – 2 mile radius – No Transportation The radius is calculated from the student’s residence to the school the student attends. Should this occur, parents will receive notification; also, maps will be available to help parents determine if this change impacts their child’s transportation. The district is currently doing everything possible to recruit bus drivers to remedy this situation. DISCUSSION/UPDATES: • McKinley/PMS Playground Update - Matt McKenzie explained to the Board the anticipated ship date of the Playground Equipment is scheduled for this week. A tentative install date is being planned for November. The location is being discussed and planning will coordinate appropriately with school activities. • Review Service Contracts - Matt McKenzie reviewed the processes for awarding service contracts with the Board. Absent, Ms. Colucci. Reconvene and Adjournment At 8:41 p.m., Mr. Polis moved and Mr. Warren seconded with Dr. Dinopoulos and Mr. Riddle voting aye to reconvene the work session and adjourn the meeting.
