Work Session Poland Board of Education held September 13, 2021 

A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 

6:00 p.m., in the Dobbins Board Room, 3030 Dobbins Road. 
In the absence of President Riddle, Vice President, Mr. Polis called the meeting to order at 6:00 
p.m. 
Pledge of Allegiance 
Members present for roll call and answering their names were Ms. Colucci, Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. 

Polis, and Mr. Warren. – Absent, Mr. Riddle. 

TREASURER – Janet Muntean 

● 
Overview of New Fair School Funding Formula – Treasurer Muntean gave a 
brief presentation of new funding components known as of today. 
SUPERINTENDENT – Craig Hockenberry 

● 
Social Media Updates – Superintendent Hockenberry gave an update of all alerts, 
celebrations and announcements available on district social media sites as well as 
the district web page. 
● 
Faith Advisory – On Tuesday, September 7, 2021 a meeting was held with five 
(5) different Church representatives to assist in district partnership with local 
clergy to work together as a community. 
● 
PEA/OAPSE Labor Relations -On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, brief meetings 
were held with both PEA and OAPSE Labor Relations personnel. 
● 
COVID-19 TRACKER/Update – Reminded the community that the COVID-19 
Tracker is available on website and updated regularly. 
● 
Mask Mandate K-12 (Revisit 9-20) – Superintendent Hockenberry held a brief 
discussion on the mask mandate and indicated that we will continue to monitor 
the situation. 
● 
Bus Driver Shortage – Explained that the Bus Driver Shortage is a nationwide 
issue, job fair planned to recruit extra help. 
● 
Thursday, September 16 -Champion Day – A Champion Day is planned at 
Canfield to showcase Students with Special Abilities.

Opening of School Update – Each building Principal briefly gave opening of the 
school year challenges and successes for their perspective buildings.

● 
North Elementary Update -Matt McKenzie – Director of Operations, gave a brief 
update to the Board on the current status of the North Property. 
● 
Literacy -Dr. Maria Hoffmaster presented literacy initiatives being used district 
wide. 
At 7:18 p.m., Mr. Warren moved and Ms. Colucci seconded with Dr. Dinopoulos and Mr. 
Polis signaling aye to enter into Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, 
dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public employee or official; and 
conference with the Board’s attorney to discuss matters which are the subject of pending or 
imminent court action. Absent, Mr. Riddle. 

Reconvene and Adjournment 

At 9:13 p.m., Ms. Colucci moved and Dr. Dinopoulos seconded with Mr. Warren and Mr. 
Polis voting aye to reconvene the work session and adjourn the meeting. Absent Mr. Riddle. 
Motion passed 4-0.
