Work Session Poland Board of Education held May 17, 2021

A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, May 17, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., in the Dobbins Board Room, 3030 Dobbins Road.

President, Mr. Riddle called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance

Members present for roll call and answering their names were Ms. Colucci, Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Polis, Mr. Riddle, and Mr. Warren.  - All Here.

PRESENTATION:  May Forecast Update FY21 - Treasurer, Janet Muntean Ð Treasurer Muntean presented the FY21 May Forecast Update to the Board of Education.  The Board will approve the forecast at the next regularly scheduled board meeting on May 24, 2021.

PRESENTATIONS:  North Elementary School Repurpose Presentations Ð
* Sam Moffie, Mike Zembower, and Bob Mastriana Ð Mr. Moffie, Mr. Zembower and Mr. Mastriana presented their vision to convert North Elementary into a state of the art multi-functional community center which would include a new community playground.
* Mahoning Valley Community School Ð Jennifer Merritt, Mahoning County High School Superintendent along with several other staff members presented their vision to convert North Elementary into the new home for the Mahoning Valley Community School.  They are interested in a possible lease option.


DISCUSSION/UPDATES: Treasurer Muntean discussed the following in the absence of Interim Superintendent, Edwin Holland.
* Discussion on GovernorÕs Cancellation of Health Orders- June 2 - Dr. Holland sent out communication today to Bulldog Families regarding the GovernorÕs Orders.  The GovernorÕs current order does not apply to school districts.  We will continue to mandate mask wearing and practice social distancing until further guidance is received
* TEMA Roofing maintenance and replacement plans Ð Both maintenance and roofing replacement plans have been incorporated into Forging the Bulldog Future Plans.
* Track/Turf - Stadium Renovations and Repairs Ð As of May 24th the track/turf will be closed to the public for track repairs.
* Construction Documents for Softball Field Ð A resolution will be approved at the May 24th board meeting to start the construction bid process for a Softball Field.
* Scoreboard Donation - Softball Field Ð The donation that was presented last month for a scoreboard cannot be approved at this time as the scoreboard is included in the softball specifications.
* Revised 2021-22 school calendar with waiver days - The waiver days for 2021-2022 school year were presented.  The waiver days allow for professional development for staff throughout the school year.


	At 7:40 p.m. Mr. Polis moved and Ms. Colucci seconded with all members signaling aye to enter into Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public employee or official;  and conference with the BoardÕs attorney to discuss matters which are the subject of  pending or imminent court action.

Reconvene and Adjournment  
	At 10:14 p.m., Mr. Warren moved and Mr. Polis seconded with all members present voting aye to reconvene adjourn the meeting.  Motion passed 5-0.
