Work Session Poland Board of Education held March 15, 2021 A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, March 15, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., in the Dobbins Board Room, 3030 Dobbins Road. President, Mr. Riddle called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance Members present for roll call and answering their names were Ms. Colucci, Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Polis, Mr. Riddle, and Mr. Warren. - All Here. Treasurer - Janet Muntean * Sale of Spare Bus Ð Treasurer Muntean explained that South Range is interested in purchasing spare bus #30 and will be recommending that transaction in the amount of $2,000 at the next regular meeting. * Fast Track Auction Agreement Ð A draft of the Fast Track Auction Agreement was presented for discussion and formal action will take place at the next regular meeting to move forward with auction of district surplus equipment. * FY20 Audit - Treasurer Muntean announced that the FY20 Audit has now been filed and is available for review on the Auditor of StateÕs Website. COVID Reporting - Staff Vaccinations, Dr. Holland * Dr. Holland updated the Board on staff COVID vaccinations. A partnership and arrangements were made in collaboration with Giant Eagle to offer vaccinations to staff employees. Over 80% of staff members have received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Approximately 9% of students are still remote; therefore, over 90% of students are in person. The Poland Schools plan to be 100% in person for 2021-2022 school year. More details will follow as they become available. DISCUSSION/UPDATES: * Building re-configuration for 2021-2022 school year and realignment proposal. Dr. Holland explained that the Forging the Bulldog Future Plans are progressing and the first stages of framework are being discussed. Several members of the districtÕs administrative team were present to assist with presentation and answer questions regarding the draft realignment presentation. Listed below are some of the highlights discussed: * Poland Seminary Jr/Sr High School Ð Grades 7-12 * McKinley Elementary Ð Grades K-3 * Poland Middle School Ð Grades 4-6 * Proposed Teacher/Student Schedule * Proposed Transportation Schedule Transportation Coordinator, Bill Amero, presented the proposed AM and PM Bus Schedules. Bussing is being reinstated to PSHS; therefore, a survey went out to determine ridership on buses. Also, plans to have a different drop off point for 7/8 are being discussed; contingent on ridership and logistics of driveway and parking. * Proposed Breakfast/Lunch Schedule Food Service Director, Megan Roemer, presented the proposed Breakfast and Lunch schedules. She also announced the USDA has extended FREE meals, both breakfast and lunch through September 30, 2021; which includes FREE breakfast and lunch during the summer. Meal pickups will still be on Mondays. All families are encouraged to participate in the FREE breakfast and lunches now through September 30, 2021. Please email mroemer@polandschools.org or call the school if you have questions and want to obtain the free meals. * Dr. Holland explained that upcoming meetings will include architectural drawings, timeline on bidding of contracts and staffing. * Dr. Holland explained that conversations regarding both North Elementary and Union Elementary properties are taking place. The district is exploring options with community entities, investors, developers, etc. Also, the district is working on relocating the wrestling program who are currently utilizing certain areas within North Elementary. * Dr. Holland suggested to the BOE that the Board needs to move forward with selling the North Property and has asked Board Council to provide information to initiate this process. A lengthy discussion was held regarding the North Elementary Property, including the building itself, the ballfields and the playground. * SuperintendentÕs Search - Update Ð Dr. Holland explained that Finding Leaders, Superintendent Search Firm had conversations today with various groups, focus groups, for input on what we are looking for in our next Superintendent. The search process is proceeding in a positive manner. * Middle School Gutter Repair Ð Dr. Holland discussed the boiler issues at the Middle/McKinley campus with the board. He discussed the repair vs replace options. The boiler must be addressed in order to avoid any further structural damage. A presentation regarding the boiler is being planned for the next regular meeting.
