Work Session Poland Board of Education held February 8, 2021 A Work Session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, February 8, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., in the Dobbins Board Room, 3030 Dobbins Road. President, Mr. Riddle called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance Members present for roll call and answering their names were Ms. Colucci, Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Polis, Mr. Riddle, and Mr. Warren. - All Here. Poland School Levy Fund Information - Jason McQuown * Jason McQuown Ð Levy Campaign Treasurer, reported the following on Levy Campaign information. - All requirements and filing of necessary reports have been met. - There has been minimal activity in the account for the year. * Treasurer Muntean presented the 2021 Election Filing Deadline schedule as well as the districtÕs current levy renewal schedule. ACADEMICS - District Literacy Plan - Overview and Update, Lisa Iberis * Lisa Iberis and Literacy Coaches presented the Poland Local School District K-12 Literacy Plan to the Board of Education. Emphasizing, ÒWhere We Were, Where are We Now and Where are We Going.Ó Mr. Zura reported that thirty-nine (39) people were joining via livestream. COVID Reporting - Staff Vaccinations, Dr. Holland * Dr. Holland reported that approximately 90% of students are back in person; however, remote learning is still an option. Poland staff received the 1st dose Ð 182 vaccinations last Friday at Boardman High School. The district partnered with Giant Eagle in administering the Pfizer vaccination. There is a 21 day window required before the 2nd dose can be administered. The 2nd dose is scheduled for Friday, February 26, 2021; therefore, students will again be all remote in order for staff to complete the vaccination process. * Reminder that we are still seeing cases and need to remain diligent in safety protocols and measures. DISCUSSION/UPDATES: Mrs. Muntean, Treasurer * Fast Track Auction Sales Ð Information was provided explaining how Fast Track Auction Sales works as an option for the district to sell/auction surplus school contents/bus. * Ohio Attorney General Safety Grant FY21 Ð The district will be receiving $9,097.54 for FY21 from the Ohio Attorney General Safety Grant. Information was shared from AA Blueprint of window coverings at PSHS to improve safety measures. * ESSER II Funding - The district will be receiving the 2nd Round COVID Relief Funds - Projection $497,359.53. Treasurer Muntean explained the differences between ESSER I and ESSER II funding as well as allowable uses and activities. A discussion was held regarding using the funds to improve air quality at Poland Middle School and use the money on HVAC. * FY21 Revised State Foundation Payments Ð Information was recently released regarding the GovernorÕs Executive Order on FY21 State Foundation Funding Payments. The District should see an adjustment to State Foundation payments beginning with the February #1 payment. * Ohio School Council (OSC) - Treasurer Muntean explained the districtÕs current gas contract expires March, 2021. A recommendation to renew with Ohio Schools Council Ð Constellation Choice program will be forthcoming. Dr. Edwin Holland, Interim Superintendent * Preschool Program Presentation, Michael Masucci - Mr. Masucci presented to the Board information regarding reopening the Poland Preschool Program September 2021. The Preschool will be housed at the Dobbins location under the name ÒDobbins Early Learning Center and PreschoolÓ. A survey will be going out and more information will follow in regards to open house and registration. Superintendent Search Firms Ð The Board heard presentations from the following Superintendent Search Firms either in person or via zoom. * OSBA - Steve Horton- 7:15 p.m. * Finding Leaders - Ed Vittardi & Dave Kircher - 7:45 p.m. * McPherson & Jacobson - Dr. Judy Sclair-Stein - 8:15 p.m. Dr. Edwin Holland, Interim SuperintendentÉ.continued * Director of Operations/Transportation Update - Dr. Holland updated the Board on the need for this position and will re-post and start the search process. * 2021-2022 District Calendar Ð Dr. Holland shared sample school calendars and discussed the possibility of approving a two year calendar so students, staff and families can plan ahead.
