Work Session Poland Board of Education held February 11, 2019


A work session of the Poland Board of Education was held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Poland Seminary High School Auditorium.

President, Mr. Lavorini called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance

Members present for roll call and answering their names were Dr. Dinopoulos, Mr. Lavorini, Mr. Riddle, Mr. Shovlin and Mrs. Zedaker.  

Presentations
* High School – Mr. Kevin Snyder
Music Department – Mr. Jeff Hvizdos explained how the new equipment the music department received through the Poland Schools Foundation Grant program creates and records music.  He also provided demonstrations of what students will be able to do in the classroom with the new equipment.
Testing – Mr. Kevin Snyder shared the 2019 District State Testing Schedule with the Board.
Foreign Language – Mr. Kevin Snyder explained both Italian and Spanish will be incorporated at Poland Middle School for next year.

* District Literacy Team – Lisa Iberis
Striving Readers Grant/District Framework – Lisa Iberis, Gina Chiaro, and Pam Angelilli presented the Poland Local Schools Literacy Framework for Grades K-12 to the Board.

Information
* Superintendent Janofa provided the Board information on the following:
- Ohio Student Enrollment Growth/Loss Report from School Years 2008/09 to 2017/18
- Poland Local Schools Projected Enrollment Report
- Poland Local Schools General Fund Balance & Student Enrollment Report
- First Time Since 2017! FY19 Five Year Forecast
- FY2018 School Choice Impact Report:  Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull Counties

      At 7:45 p.m., Dr. Dinopoulos moved and Mrs. Zedaker seconded with all members present signaling aye to enter into Executive Session to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official.
      
      
Reconvene and Adjournment 
	At 9:55 p.m., Mrs. Zedaker moved and Mr. Shovlin seconded with all members present voting aye to reconvene and adjourn the meeting.
