Special Regular Meeting Poland Board of Education held June 8, 2020


The Special Regular meeting of the Poland Board of Education was held virtually on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.  

President, Mr. Riddle called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance

Members present for roll call and answering their names were Mr. Polis, Ms. Colucci, Mr. Riddle and Mr. Warren.  Absent: Dr. Dinopoulos


Approval to Initiate Retirement/Reemployment Procedures Ð Resolution #2020-102
	Mr. Polis moved and Ms. Colucci seconded with Mr. Warren and Mr. Riddle voting aye to approve the following resolution to initiate procedures under Ohio law for the retirement and reemployment of non-teaching employees and a teaching employee.  Absent Dr. Dinopoulos.  Motion passed 4-0.

       WHEREAS, William Amero is employed in the position of Transportation Coordinator and has communicated to the Board that he has retired from his employment effective June 1, 2020; and

	WHEREAS, Mr. Amero has expressed interest and a desire of being rehired in the same position from which he retired, and former retirees Sebastian Bruno and Eva Sullivan have also expressed a continued interest and desire of being rehired in their same positions as bus driver and teacher; and

	WHEREAS, the Board desires that Mr. Amero be reemployed in the position of Transportation Coordinator effective August 10, 2020, following retirement and that Mr. Bruno and Ms. Sullivan also be reemployed in the position of bus driver and teacher for the 2020-2021 school year; and

	WHEREAS, sections 3307.353 and 3309.345 of the Ohio Revised Code specifically provide that the Board must follow special Òpublic inputÓ procedures prior to rehiring a retired employee into the same position the employee held prior to the date of retirement.  

	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Poland Local School District hereby authorizes and instructs its Treasurer to make arrangements that the public notice attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit ÒAÓ shall appear in a newspaper of general circulation within Mahoning County at least sixty (60) days prior to August 10, 2020, in order to provide the requisite Òpublic noticeÓ as prescribed by sections 3307.353 and 3309.345 of the Ohio Revised Code.  

	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, in accordance with the public notice attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit ÒAÓ, the public hearing required under the aforementioned statutes shall occur via livestream on July 20, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. at the Poland Board of Education Administration Office.  

       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is hereby found and determined that all formal actions of this Board concerning and relating to the adoption of this resolution were adopted in an electronic meeting and/or open meeting of this Board in compliance with all legal requirements, including HB 197 and as permitted by Ohio law.

Approval of 2020 Seasonal Substitute Personnel Ð Resolution #2020-103
	Ms. Colucci moved and Mr. Warren seconded with Mr. Polis and Mr. Riddle voting aye to approve the following 2020 non-contractual seasonal/summer substitute list, substitute basis only, according to wage rate for the assignment designated according to OAPSE contract Òseasonal helpÓ.  Effective June 1, 2020.  Absent Dr. Dinopoulos.  Motion passed 4-0.
