Recommended Reading for Students Entering Grades 1 & 2
Dear Family:
Reading is an important part of everyday life. Just because it is summer, students should not put their books away! Brockton Public Schools invite you and your family to participate in our Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Dream Big, READ!”
The importance of summer reading cannot be overemphasized. Educational researchers note that some children’s reading levels dropped as much as two grades when students did not read regularly over the summer months. It is really simple: the more students read the better readers they become. Your support is a critical part of the Summer Reading Program.
Students entering grades 1 and 2 can read books from the Recommended Authors List, the Optional Titles List or students may select a book of their choice. As a parent or guardian, you may pick books to read together, too. Just record the title of any books your child reads this summer on the reading log and sign your initials. Look for the log on the inside of this brochure or on our website: www.bpsma.org. Send this form back with your child in the fall for a certificate of participation!
We hope you and your family will read this summer, and reap all of the wonderful benefits that reading has to offer.
Sincerely,
Kathleen A. Smith, JD
