Grade Book Essentials

Everything you need to run your grade book like a pro — plus the advanced View, Tools, and Actions menus.

🏁 Everything below starts in Grade Book › My Grade Book.
0 steps done
1 Open Your Grade Book & Set It Up (First Week) ▶
1Go to Grade Book > My Grade Book.
2Select the appropriate Marking Period, then the appropriate Class.
3Use the filters across the top to view by Category, Assignment, or Student.
4If your district lets you pick a grading method, use the Grading dropdown to choose Points, Weight, or Weight/Points. Set it once and leave it for the whole year.
5If your district allows custom categories, click the arrow next to New Assignment to build them — e.g. Tests (40%), Quizzes (25%), Classwork (20%), Homework (15%). Weights must sum to 100%.
6Click Copy to All My Classes — no need to redo per class.
2 Add a New Assignment ▶
1Click New Assignment.
2Fill out the form: Name, Category, Due Date, and High Score. Everything else is optional — use it if it applies.
3Check Copy to Other Classes if applicable, then click Save.
3 Enter Grades — Three Ways ▶
1One at a time — click the cell, type the score, hit Enter to move down or Tab to move right.
2Whole class at once — click the assignment column header > Bulk Entry. Paste from a spreadsheet or type all scores stacked.
3From an assessment — Assessment/Classroom > [your test] > Copy to Gradebook.
4 Flag Grades & Add Comments ▶
1Right-click a cell to flag a grade as Missing, Late, Incomplete, or Other — or apply a custom color.
2Add a comment at the assignment level from the same right-click menu.
5 The View Menu — Letter Grades & Display ▶
1See letter grades beside numbers: View > Show Overall Letter Grade On Left Side (add Show Overall Grade On Left Side for the running average too).
✓Set it once, it sticks: View settings are per-user and stay put across sessions.
